Founded 1974
The Club was founded by Sensei Geoff Wilding in 1974. It was set up as a non profit making club, run for the members by the members. We are proud to say it remains so to this day.
So many people came to that very first session that training had to be done in relays. Richard Poole and Russell Owen both became members on the first night and remember some of the first training sessions in which anything painful was described as “character building” and instructors were treated as visiting royalty.
The only local knowledge of martial arts had been gained from the local judo club or from the Bruce Lee films and so there was enormous interest when the club first opened. Since then the club has built up a large number of experienced and highly qualified instructors, with knowledge of teaching, training and competition at local, national and international levels.
We are always keen to add to our archives of club history - if you have photos, information on competition success by Rhyl & Prestatyn members in the past, or any corrections please get in touch!
